Lions !!!

(click on any photo to see a larger version) I love Lions....I collect lions. When I found out I was going to travel to Africa on a safari, my goal was to capture images of lions. Well, the images I got surpassed what I even thought I will get. The first 2 shots I got after our driver noticed a cape buffalo carcass barely eaten. He knew that lions had to be in the area. We drove a few yards and under some brush were a small group of lions resting. We circled around the group and the shots I gotwere when they woke up. I could have opened the van door and pet them if I wanted to, that is how close we came. The last shot was a male and a female together after a round of "afternoon delight". During the mating time they mate several time during the week and don't eat during that time.
I have many other that I will post later....I still have many to go through, but I seem to be making progress.

I can't believe I took over 2100 images on my trip. They filled over 10 disks. I think it should take me about a week to get them down to a workable amount. Thank god for digital because it enabled me to take so many shots of each animal and I didn't have to worry about wasting film. Plus the instant gradification on the back of the camera is wonderful, just to be able to take a quick peek and know you have captured something unbelievable makes even more special.

I'm Back !!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, actually I was back 3 days ago. I believe my body is finally back in a normal sleep routine. I have been asleep by 8:30 since I returned.

Amazing....words can't begin to describe my experience and what I saw. I am still amazed as to how close we came to the animals. Many were so close you just wanted to reach out and touch them.

tick...tick... tick

Could time go any slower???? It feels like 6 hours went by since 11:00 this morning after I finished all my errands. Now it is only 2:00....I have another hour and a half till I leave for the airport. I have been so excited about this trip but it still seems surreal.....I think it will kick in once I am on the plane. Tick.....Tick....Tick.... and so the waiting goes....

T minus 20 Hours and counting

I am down to 20 hours until I board my flight. As you can see my bags are all packed and I think I have everything I need....We'll see. I did write down and check off as I went along, but it never fails, no matter how much planning something is always left behind. However, I have been very anal about all my camera equipment. I could care less if I end up with just a few pair of clothes. Just so long as I have charged batteries and digital chips. I am going to try and make an effort to post an update while I am there. During the afternoons we basically have to do what we want and a few places we are staying claim to have internet access.....so be on the look out. I did pick up the lens I am going to use.....holy cow is it ever sweet !!!! I can't wait to see the images I am able to capture. I look foward to sharing my adventure and photos when I return.
